The Malawi Projects, Portadown, Craigavon, UK

This 1,180 sq ft mural (59ft wide and 26ft high at its peak) was created for The Malawi Projects charity, based in Craigavon, Portadown. The mural was designed to reflect the incredible work the organisation does in Malawi, empowering communities through sustainable solutions.

The brief was to visually showcase the charity's core mission: providing a hand up, not a handout. Through vibrant storytelling, the mural highlights their efforts in:

  • Agriculture – Supporting farms and mills to promote self-sufficiency

  • Education – Building schools to equip future generations

  • Healthcare – Offering medical support and training for long-term impact

A warm welcome in Chichewa, Takulandirani, anchors the piece, a nod to the cultural heart of the communities they support.

The mural took 4 days to complete, with the help of an incredible team of volunteers from the charity’s shop. We worked through rain and shine (at one point using gazebos and even hairdryers to dry the paint before the rain got to it!). It was one of the most rewarding projects I’ve ever had the privilege to work on.

Endless thanks to the team at The Malawi Projects for inviting me into their world, and for the vital work they continue to do. If you're local, please visit the shop, and if you have items to donate or want to support the cause, I can’t recommend them enough.
